The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken disciplinary action against 589 officers and employees in a major accountability drive. The action followed the conclusion of 629 cases out of 827 cases registered since October 2025.
A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in Peshawar reviewed the progress of the accountability process. Officials told the meeting that 198 cases remain under process, while 40 employees were exonerated in cases already decided.
KP Government Takes Disciplinary Action Against Officials
The disciplinary measures varied according to the nature of each case and the findings of the inquiries. The government removed 128 employees from service, while another 18 were dismissed.
Furthermore, six employees were compulsorily retired and two were demoted. The government also ordered salary recoveries from 89 employees.
One employee was arrested during the accountability process. Meanwhile, authorities withheld the promotions of 39 employees following the proceedings.
The action also included 16 charge sheets and salary cuts for 14 employees. In addition, authorities suspended 10 employees and issued warnings to 155 others.
Another 52 employees received reprimands as part of the disciplinary measures taken against them.
Unauthorized Absence Tops List of Offences
Unauthorized absence emerged as the most frequently reported offence during the accountability review. It accounted for 447 cases, representing around 54 percent of the total cases.
Negligence of duty followed with 120 cases. Corruption and financial irregularities were recorded in 75 cases, while another 75 cases involved allegations of incompetence.
The authorities also recorded 14 misconduct cases and 13 cases involving poor supervision. Furthermore, 11 cases involved violations of government rules.
The accountability process included several other administrative measures. These included 221 show-cause notices and 279 cases seeking explanations from employees.
Authorities also conducted 184 inquiries and recorded 102 suspensions during the process. Additionally, 23 cases involved expressions of displeasure, while nine officers were placed on the OSD list.
District Offices Account for Most Cases
District offices accounted for the largest share of the accountability cases reviewed during the meeting. They recorded 305 cases in total.
Attached departments and institutions accounted for another 263 cases. Meanwhile, central departments reported 259 cases under the accountability process.
The review also covered disciplinary action following field inspections in the health sector. Authorities took action against 90 employees at District Headquarters Hospital Swabi.
Similarly, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against 61 employees at District Headquarters Hospital Lakki Marwat.
Government Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy
The chief minister said the government would ensure accountability without discrimination. He also stressed that transparency, merit and good governance remained key government priorities.
Sohail Afridi reiterated the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He maintained that corrupt elements would have no place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The latest figures highlight the scale of the government’s ongoing accountability process. However, 198 cases remain under process, meaning further decisions could follow as investigations continue.
