ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will present its provincial budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the assembly on Friday, 19 June. The statement comes amid ongoing political debate over the timing and process of the budget session.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that all members of the provincial assembly will attend the upcoming budget session. He stated that party lawmakers will fully support the Chief Minister in securing approval of the annual financial plan.
Meanwhile, discussions around the budget have intensified in political circles. Officials and leaders from different sides have expressed contrasting views on whether any procedural delay has occurred in the budget process.
Governor Rejects Claims of Delay
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said there has been no procedural delay in the presentation of the provincial budget. He emphasized that the matter is being shaped more by political narratives than constitutional issues.
Speaking to the media at the Parliament House, he said that the responsibility lies with the provincial government if the budget is not presented on time. He added that political discussions around the issue should not be confused with constitutional requirements.
Governor Kundi also commented on internal political matters within PTI, stating that differing opinions within the party reflect ongoing tensions. He further said that past statements regarding budget delays have also created confusion in public understanding.
Political Debate and Development Concerns
Moreover, the governor highlighted governance challenges in the province, including security concerns, wheat shortages, and development issues. He noted that cooperation would be possible if the provincial leadership prioritizes progress and stability.
In addition, he commented on broader political developments in Gilgit-Baltistan and ongoing legal proceedings involving PTI leadership, further linking provincial politics with national dynamics.
As a result, the upcoming budget session is expected to draw significant political attention as parties prepare for debate over fiscal priorities and governance performance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
