The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the revival of the Ehsaas Scholarship Program through provincial resources to support deserving students.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen higher education and improve opportunities for students across the province. At the same time, officials have pledged additional financial support for public universities facing economic challenges.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi during the University of Peshawar’s convocation.
Ehsaas Scholarship Program Returns
Addressing the convocation ceremony, the chief minister said the provincial government remains committed to expanding access to quality higher education.
He explained that the revived Ehsaas Scholarship Program will help deserving students continue their academic journey without unnecessary financial barriers.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed the government’s focus on improving educational standards across public universities.
Government Addresses Financial Challenges
The chief minister said the government inherited serious financial problems affecting public universities.
According to him, steps have already been taken to improve the financial health of these institutions.
He stated that pension liabilities accumulated between 2017 and June 2026 have now been fully cleared.
In addition, he said the combined financial deficit of public universities has been reduced from nearly Rs9 billion to around Rs4.5 billion.
Officials believe these measures will provide greater financial stability for higher education institutions across the province.
University Funding Increased
The provincial government has also increased financial assistance for public universities.
Funding has risen from Rs10 billion in the previous fiscal year to Rs12 billion in the current provincial budget.
According to the chief minister, the additional allocation will help universities strengthen teaching standards, improve research facilities and enhance overall academic quality.
Moreover, the increased funding is expected to support long-term institutional development.
