The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has introduced its first digital driving licence service, allowing motorists to carry a legally valid electronic licence on their mobile phones.
The new facility operates through the โRabtaโ mobile application. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Peshawar Dr Zahid Ullah announced the launch and highlighted its benefits for citizens.
Motorists can access their digital driving licence within seconds. They only need to enter their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number and driving licence number through the application.
Digital Licence Accepted During Traffic Checks
Dr Zahid Ullah said drivers will no longer need to carry a physical licence during routine travel. Traffic officials will accept the digital version available on the Rabta app during inspections.
The initiative aims to make driving services easier and more accessible for residents. Moreover, it reduces the need for citizens to manage physical documents while travelling.
Officials explained that the service is part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Policeโs digital governance strategy. The strategy focuses on providing faster, efficient, and user-friendly services through technology.
Digital Services Reduce Paperwork and Office Visits
The traffic police had previously introduced an online licence verification service for citizens travelling abroad. The service helps overseas authorities verify driving licences for visa-related requirements.
Officials said thousands of applicants have already benefited from the online verification facility.
Dr Zahid Ullah stated that digital solutions can reduce unnecessary visits to government offices. Furthermore, they can minimize paperwork and save valuable time for citizens.
More Public Services to Move Online
The CTO added that authorities plan to shift additional public services to digital platforms in the future. These steps aim to improve transparency, convenience, and accessibility for residents.
The introduction of the digital driving licence marks another step toward modernizing public services in KP. Through technology-based solutions, traffic authorities aim to provide smoother services and improve the overall experience for motorists.
