Pakistan has rejected India’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir during a United Nations Security Council session, reaffirming that the disputed region is not an internal matter of India. Pakistan’s Counsellor to the United Nations, Saima Saleem, responded to India’s representative and said the Kashmir issue remains an internationally recognised dispute.
She stated that Jammu and Kashmir cannot be considered an integral part of India and stressed the importance of addressing the matter through relevant UN resolutions.
Pakistan Raises Kashmir Dispute and Human Rights Concerns
Saima Saleem said India itself brought the Kashmir dispute before the UN Security Council in the past but was now ignoring the council’s resolutions.
She also highlighted concerns over alleged human rights violations and restrictions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Pakistani diplomat, India’s claims of supporting peace were “ironic” because denying the dispute does not change its internationally recognised status.
She added that political statements cannot alter the facts surrounding the Kashmir issue.
Pakistan Warns Against Using Water as a Weapon
During the session, Saima Saleem also raised concerns over India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty.
She said the move violated international law and stressed that the Indus River system provides essential resources for millions of people.
The Pakistani representative stated that water should never become a tool of conflict between countries.
Islamabad Raises Concerns Over Regional Security
Saima Saleem further accused India of supporting networks linked to terrorism and claimed their activities had expanded beyond the region.
She also alleged that Hindutva ideology had contributed to increasing Islamophobia in India.
Pakistan reiterated that regional peace requires dialogue, respect for international agreements, and cooperation between neighbouring countries.
