Pakistan has strongly condemned remarks made by the Indian Defence Minister regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, calling them provocative and irresponsible. The Foreign Office said the statements misrepresented established facts about the internationally recognized dispute and could affect regional peace.
In a statement issued in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said India’s comments ignored the status of the Jammu and Kashmir issue at the United Nations Security Council.
“His statement not only distorts facts regarding the UN and internationally-recognized Jammu and Kashmir dispute that remains on the agenda of the UN Security Council but also shows Indian government’s deliberate policy to threaten regional and international peace and security,” he said.
Pakistan Rejects India’s Position on Kashmir
The Foreign Office spokesperson said India’s remarks attempted to shift attention away from what Pakistan described as the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Andrabi also accused India of supporting terrorism in the region and using aggressive statements to divert attention from domestic challenges.
He said Pakistan would continue to respond to any threats and remain committed to protecting its national interests. Furthermore, he warned that India should not underestimate Pakistan’s resolve and determination.
The spokesperson referred to Pakistan’s response during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, saying the nation and armed forces had demonstrated their ability to counter any security challenges.
Pakistan Calls for International Attention
Pakistan urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take notice of what it called India’s actions regarding the Kashmir dispute.
The Foreign Office emphasized that relevant UN Security Council resolutions provide Kashmiris with the right to self-determination. Therefore, it called on the global community to ensure accountability and support international commitments.
“Pakistan urges the international community, in particular the United Nations, to take note of India’s continued rouge behaviour and to hold it accountable for its failure to uphold the relevant UN Security Council resolutions that guarantee the right to self-determination to the Kashmiris,” Andrabi added.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Also Rejects Remarks
Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif rejected comments made by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He said such statements could not change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir or alter internationally recognized legal positions.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Asif said India’s attempts to present a different narrative through political statements would not change the situation.
“Pakistan categorically rejects the irresponsible statements made by the Indian defence minister,” he said.
Asif added that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory. He said the final decision must follow United Nations resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the existing legal framework of the Kashmir dispute. Moreover, he rejected any efforts to change the issue through unilateral claims or political rhetoric.
