A Karachi court has acquitted the female driver involved in the deadly Karsaz road accident in a separate narcotics case.
A judicial magistrate in Karachi’s District East announced the acquittal on Friday.
The court found that the prosecution failed to establish the narcotics charges against the accused.
The defence argued that the available test results did not establish the presence of methamphetamine.
The court subsequently acquitted the accused after finding insufficient evidence to prove the prosecution’s case.
Defence Challenges Methamphetamine Evidence
During the hearing, the defence counsel argued that neither the chemical analysis nor the blood test detected methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine is commonly known as crystal meth or ice.
The defence lawyer also alleged that police had tampered with samples collected from the accused.
Furthermore, the lawyer claimed that the investigating officer concealed the blood test report during the investigation.
The defence maintained that the available evidence did not support the narcotics allegations against the accused.
After considering the case, the court concluded that the prosecution had not provided sufficient evidence to establish the charges.
Deadly Karsaz Accident in August 2024
The narcotics case originated from the investigation following the fatal Karsaz road accident.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2024, when the suspect’s luxury vehicle crashed into multiple vehicles near the Pakistan Maritime Museum.
The accident killed 26-year-old Aamna Arif and her 60-year-old father, Imran Arif.
Several other people also sustained injuries in the crash.
The injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were brought to the hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Blood and Urine Samples Collected
The female driver also suffered a head injury during the crash.
She underwent a CT scan at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre following the accident.
Doctors and authorities subsequently collected blood and urine samples from her during the medico-legal examination.
On August 31, 2024, police said methamphetamine had been detected in the suspect’s blood and urine samples.
Police then registered a separate case against her under provisions relating to the use of a prohibited substance.
However, the defence later challenged the evidence presented in the narcotics case.
The latest court decision focused specifically on whether the prosecution had proved the narcotics charges.
Acquittal Separate From Karsaz Death Case
The latest acquittal does not concern the separate murder case registered over the deaths of Aamna and Imran. In October 2024, a district and sessions court acquitted the female driver in that case.
The acquittal followed the submission of a reconciliation agreement by the victims’ families.
Earlier, the victims’ heirs had pardoned the suspect and told the court they had no objection to her bail. They maintained that the accident was not intentional.
The latest ruling therefore relates specifically to the separate narcotics case arising from the same incident.
