A young doctor was killed during a deadly robbery outside a bank in Karachi’s Clifton area after armed suspects targeted customers carrying a large amount of cash. The incident happened when the victim and his family attempted to deposit money at another bank after making a withdrawal.
According to police, the victim, identified as 28-year-old Akash, had withdrawn Rs5 million from a private bank near Teen Talwar. He was accompanied by his father and another companion at the time.
However, as they reached another bank in the Boat Basin area to deposit the cash, armed robbers intercepted their vehicle. The suspects attempted to snatch the money, leading to a violent confrontation outside the bank.
Gunfire Erupts Outside the Bank
Police said a security guard stationed at the bank opened fire after noticing the robbery attempt. In response, the armed suspects returned fire, turning the area into a crime scene within moments.
During the exchange of gunfire, Akash sustained fatal injuries. Despite the efforts made afterward, he could not survive.
Meanwhile, the attackers managed to flee with one bag containing Rs2.5 million, which was half of the total amount withdrawn from the bank.
Police Launch Investigation
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Mahzoor Ali confirmed the details of the incident. He said investigators are examining every possible angle to determine exactly how the robbery unfolded.
Police have also taken the bank security guard into custody as part of the investigation. Officials are reviewing his role and the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.
Furthermore, law enforcement authorities have started collecting evidence from the crime scene. Investigators are also examining available CCTV footage and other forensic evidence to identify the suspects.
Efforts Underway to Arrest Suspects
Police said teams are actively working to trace and arrest the armed robbers responsible for the attack. Authorities have assured that all those involved will be brought before the law.
