Johnny Depp is stepping back into a major Hollywood production with the upcoming thriller Day Drinker. The film has now released its first trailer ahead of its scheduled theatrical debut in 2027.
Directed by Marc Webb, the thriller stars Depp alongside Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline. Day Drinker is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 26, 2027.
Johnny Depp Takes on a Mysterious Character
The story follows a bartender working on a private yacht, played by Cline. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a mysterious guest portrayed by Depp.
The encounter soon draws both characters into a dangerous situation involving a criminal figure played by Cruz. Along the way, they discover unexpected connections between their lives.
The newly released trailer gives viewers their first extended glimpse of Depp’s character. He appears grey-haired and mysterious, with a past seemingly filled with secrets.
“My story? Perhaps it’s a tale of revenge. Or perhaps something worse,” Depp’s character says in the trailer, before questioning whether the events unfolding could be part of a ghost story.
Day Drinker Marks Depp’s Hollywood Return
Day Drinker represents one of Depp’s first major Hollywood-backed projects following his highly publicised 2022 legal battle with former wife Amber Heard.
The actor is also set to appear in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. That film is scheduled to reach cinemas on November 13.
Meanwhile, Day Drinker gives audiences another major-screen role from Depp as he returns to a studio-backed thriller.
Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline Join the Thriller
The film also marks Cruz’s return to the Hollywood studio system after a series of independent projects. Her recent projects include La Bola Negra, The Invite and Bunker.
For Cline, the thriller marks her first project since completing work on Outer Banks. Her role places her character at the centre of the mysterious events surrounding Depp’s character.
The film brings the three actors together in a story combining mystery, crime and potentially supernatural elements.
