Traffic disruptions affected several major roads in Karachi on Friday as Jamaat-i-Islami staged protest sit-ins. Consequently, authorities warned commuters about delays and temporary road closures.
The protests formed part of a nationwide campaign against the petroleum levy. Earlier, Jamaat-i-Islami announced sit-ins at 510 locations across Pakistan.
Karachi Traffic Police Issue Advisory
Karachi traffic police said demonstrations could slow traffic on key routes. Moreover, officials warned of temporary diversions and partial road closures across the city.
Affected areas included Mazar-i-Quaid, Numaish Chowrangi, Saddar, Shahrah-i-Faisal, and Shahrah-i-Pakistan. Traffic also slowed near UP Mor, Power House Chowrangi, DHA, Sea View, Super Highway, and National Highway.
Police advised citizens to avoid affected areas unless necessary. Furthermore, commuters were urged to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time.
Party Workers Block Key Roads
According to updates shared on JI Karachiโs official X account, party workers began sit-ins at the announced locations. Meanwhile, protesters blocked the road leading to Natha Khan from Shahrah-i-Faisal.
Workers also blocked the Super Highway and Hub River Road. Authorities continued monitoring the situation as traffic disruptions persisted across several parts of Karachi.
