Federal Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja has expressed support for the new Governor’s setup in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying it could improve governance, promote stability, and benefit residents across the province.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, October 13, Shaza said the administrative changes would help address challenges facing the province. She also pointed to difficulties in holding discussions with people in KP because continuous protests had made such engagements challenging.
Shaza Fatima Promises Better Digital Services in KP
Alongside her comments on governance, the IT minister pledged to improve digital services throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She said the government would work to expand access to technology so that its benefits could reach every household.
Improved digital access remains an important part of the government’s stated plans for the province. However, Shaza did not provide specific details about the proposed initiatives or a timeline for their implementation.
Satellite Internet Licences Await Regulatory Approval
Shaza also addressed the planned introduction of satellite internet services in Pakistan, explaining that the government was ready to issue licences once the relevant regulatory requirements were complete.
She said the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) must finalise its rules before the licensing process can move forward. Once the regulator completes this step, the government will be able to proceed with issuing internet licences.
The minister clarified that PSARB operates as an independent regulator rather than under the Ministry of Information Technology. Therefore, her ministry cannot advance the licensing process until the board finalises the necessary rules.
Regulatory Rules Remain Key to Satellite Internet Rollout
The minister’s remarks highlight the importance of completing the regulatory framework before satellite internet services can move towards licensing. Although the government is prepared to issue licences, the next step depends on PSARB finalising its rules.
Meanwhile, Shaza’s support for the new Governor’s setup reflects the government’s position that administrative changes could improve stability and governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She also reiterated the importance of expanding digital services so residents across the province can benefit from greater access to technology.
