At least 14 Palestinians were killed in multiple Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Friday. The dead included mourners attending a funeral procession in central Gaza, according to local health officials.
The attacks came despite a ceasefire that Palestinian authorities say Israel continues to violate. Meanwhile, Israeli officials said they targeted what they described as a militant cell.
Funeral Procession Hit in Nuseirat Camp
According to Gaza’s civil defence agency, an Israeli drone struck a gathering near Al-Balata market in Nuseirat refugee camp. The attack killed eight people and injured at least 20 others, Al-Awda Hospital reported.
Witnesses said mourners had gathered outside the Ahmad Yassin Mosque before a funeral procession began. The funeral was for a Palestinian reportedly killed in a separate Israeli strike earlier that day.
The Israeli military confirmed carrying out the attack in central Gaza. However, it said the strike targeted a “terrorist” cell and that reports of civilian casualties remain under review.
Hamas Condemns Strike Amid Ceasefire Dispute
Meanwhile, Hamas condemned the attack and accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement. The group described the strike as a crime against civilians and urged international mediators to intervene.
Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud reported that the drone struck mourners as they left the mosque. He said the incident reflected continued violence despite the existing truce.
The latest attacks add to ongoing tensions as both sides continue exchanging accusations over repeated ceasefire violations. Further details are expected as authorities continue assessing casualties and investigating the incidents.
