Islamabad has ranked among the world’s safer cities following a major security drive led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The federal capital secured 83rd position among 401 cities in the World Safety Index. According to the data, Islamabad recorded a 27 percent decline in crime during 2026.
Islamabad Records Major Crime Reduction
Authorities said police arrested suspects involved in all murder cases reported in Islamabad this year. Furthermore, police successfully solved several high-profile cases, including the Group Captain Asim Tariq and H-9 triple murder cases.
Investigators also solved the businessman Aamir Awan murder case. Meanwhile, police resolved the Al Falah Bank robbery case within a short period through professional investigation.
Anti-crime operations resulted in more than 14,645 cases being registered. Police also arrested 887 absconders, 1,595 habitual criminals, and 944 proclaimed offenders.
Additionally, authorities arrested 1,144 drug peddlers under the “Nasha Ab Nahi” campaign. Police also detained 1,592 suspects for illegal weapons possession under the “No to Weapons” campaign.
Islamabad Police Expand Modern Security Measures
The authorities upgraded special initiative police stations and improved facilities under the SAPS project. Moreover, Police Station on Wheels enabled immediate services and on-the-spot FIR registration.
Police also strengthened the CTD, anti-riot unit, and other specialised units with modern resources. Command-and-control centres improved surveillance and response capabilities across Islamabad.
Furthermore, authorities established SWAT and DELTA Force units alongside horse-mounted, foot, and motorcycle patrols. Night patrols also targeted crime prevention in commercial areas.
The capital also introduced a modern K-9 unit for detecting explosives and dangerous objects. Additionally, a special protection unit now focuses on safeguarding Chinese citizens.
Safe City Islamabad received technological upgrades to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention. Innovative initiatives include an AI-based Hunch Lab, cybersecurity measures, and a virtual patrol officer.
Authorities also launched online women’s police stations and activated the IGP Complaint Cell and Helpline 1715. Meanwhile, modern traffic services and women-focused driving programmes expanded citizen facilities.
Police provided security for international conferences, foreign delegations, VVIP movements, protests, rallies, and major parliamentary sessions. Electric patrol vehicles were also introduced under the Go Green initiative.
