Islamabad Police have requested Rs. 1 billion from the Ministry of Interior to cover expenses related to upcoming protests and sit-ins planned by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat-e-Islami. The request comes as authorities intensify security preparations in the federal capital.
According to sources in the federal administration, the proposed budget will support a wide range of operational and logistical requirements. Officials are preparing for large-scale demonstrations expected in the coming days.
Funds to Cover Security Arrangements
The requested amount includes expenses for renting more than 1,200 containers to secure key locations across Islamabad. Authorities also plan to use the funds for accommodation and meals for over 29,000 deployed police personnel and officers.
In addition, part of the budget will be allocated for purchasing sandbags, tear gas guns, tear gas shells, and fuel. These measures aim to strengthen law enforcement capabilities during the protests.
Security arrangements have already been expanded throughout the capital. More than 1,000 containers have reportedly been transported to Islamabad as part of the preparations.
Police Prepare for Upcoming Demonstrations
Authorities are also deploying additional security personnel to maintain order during the planned marches and sit-ins. The increased presence is intended to manage crowds and protect public property.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced a long march and sit-in in Islamabad on September 27. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami has also launched a march toward the capital to protest the petroleum levy and rising fuel prices.
The planned demonstrations are expected to attract large numbers of participants. Consequently, Islamabad Police have sought additional financial resources to support security operations and logistical requirements.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely while coordinating arrangements for the upcoming protests. Further security measures may be introduced depending on developments in the coming days.
