Islamabad Police are promoting a taxi safety application despite reports of technical problems and limited practical usefulness. The Taxi Verification System (TVS) aims to help passengers verify drivers and vehicles before starting their journeys.
However, recent testing revealed that the application failed to complete basic account registration. Users have also reported similar problems through negative reviews on the Google Play Store.
Registration Problems Raise Safety Concerns
The application repeatedly displayed a “Something went wrong” error during registration attempts. Other users reported login difficulties, including “user not found” and “weak internet connection” messages.
One user reportedly complained that their login request had remained pending for more than 10 months. These issues have raised questions about the application’s reliability and accessibility.
Moreover, the system only verifies drivers who have registered themselves on the platform. This limitation reduces its effectiveness because passengers cannot check unregistered taxi drivers.
Reports suggest that approximately 13,000 drivers have registered since the application launched in July 2025. Consequently, the system still has limited coverage across the capital.
Existing Ride-Hailing Apps Offer Similar Features
Popular ride-hailing platforms, including Yango and inDrive, already allow passengers to check driver identities and vehicle details. Therefore, questions have emerged about the additional protection offered by the police application.
Although the initiative aims to improve passenger security, technical reliability remains essential. A safety application must provide consistent access and meaningful verification to protect citizens.
Islamabad Police will need to address registration failures and expand driver participation. Otherwise, the application could struggle to deliver its intended benefits.
