ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have received modern net launchers to target protesters damaging public property. Islamabad police received this modern weapon for the first time to be used against the long march participants, attacking public properties.
According to police officials, the launcher can fire a net at individuals at high speed. Police will use the equipment against protesters involved in damaging public property.
Officials said federal police would use the net launcher for the first time during the PTI protest. They added that the equipment could help officers make arrests during emergency situations.
Security Measures Tighten in Capital
Meanwhile, the Islamabad district administration has imposed Section 144 across the federal capital. Authorities said gatherings of any kind would remain prohibited under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024.
The administration warned that authorities would take legal action against anyone violating the restrictions. A violation of the law can carry a prison sentence of up to three years. Officials urged citizens to avoid illegal activities and cooperate with security agencies during the security operation.
Furthermore, authorities have planned additional measures to maintain law and order during the protest period.
Mobile and Internet Services to Face Suspension
Meanwhile, mobile phone and internet services will remain suspended in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Attock on September 26 and 27. Authorities would suspend the services as part of security measures linked to the possible PTI long march. A high-level security meeting held five days earlier also discussed measures concerning major transport routes.
The meeting considered possible closures of motorways, the GT Road and other key routes. Officials also discussed measures to maintain law and order and address security concerns. Authorities are expected to maintain heightened security across the affected areas during the protest period. The measures come as preparations continue for the PTI march, with officials focusing on preventing disruptions and protecting public property.
