The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will begin construction of the Kashmir Chowk underpass after September 27. Officials confirmed that the authority has completed key preparations and finalized the project contract.
According to CDA sources, the authority accepted the winning bid and awarded the contract to Habib Construction Services (HCS). The company submitted a financial bid of Rs. 1.45 billion against the estimated project cost of Rs. 1.486 billion.
Preparatory Work Moves Ahead
Meanwhile, workers have already started clearing and grubbing activities at the project site. The CDA is also planning traffic diversions and shifting utility services to ensure smooth construction progress.
Officials stated that the bidding documents allow a completion period of 90 days. However, the authority expects HCS to complete the underpass within two months through a fast-track construction plan.
The underpass will be built at Kashmir Chowk on Murree Road, also known as Dhokri Chowk, near Islamabad Club. Once completed, it will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.
Traffic Plan and Project Details
Under the proposed design, vehicles traveling toward Rawalpindi from the Serena side will move through the underpass. In contrast, traffic heading toward Murree will use the road constructed above the underpass.
NESPAK’s Lahore team prepared the project design. Furthermore, CDA officials emphasized that they want to complete the project within the approved budget while maintaining construction quality.
Authorities also aim to avoid unnecessary design changes that could increase project costs. As a result, they continue to monitor planning and implementation closely before the official groundbreaking ceremony.
The Kashmir Chowk underpass is part of the CDA’s broader effort to improve Islamabad’s road infrastructure. Officials believe the project will help ease traffic pressure and provide smoother travel for daily commuters.
