Funeral Arrangements Being Finalised in Tehran
Iranian authorities have announced a detailed funeral plan for late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, according to media reports.
Iranโs semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that the government is preparing three days of farewell ceremonies. The plan also includes a 24-hour funeral procession in Tehran.
Tehranโs Deputy Mayor Mohammad Amin Tavakolizadeh said preparations for the farewell, funeral and burial ceremonies are being finalised. He said officials are working on arrangements for large public gatherings and official mourning events.
The announcement comes as Iran prepares for one of the most significant state ceremonies in its recent history. The funeral is expected to draw major attention inside the country and across the region.
Tehran Procession to Last 24 Hours
According to the reported plan, the main funeral procession will take place in Tehran. Officials said the procession is expected to continue for 24 hours.
The farewell ceremonies will allow people to pay their final respects to the late leader. Authorities are preparing security, public access and crowd management arrangements for the events.
The exact venue for some parts of the ceremony is still being finalised. However, Tehran will remain the centre of the first phase of the funeral plan.
The three-day farewell schedule shows the scale of the ceremony. It also reflects the political and religious importance of Khamenei in Iranโs power structure.
Body to Be Taken to Qom and Mashhad
After the Tehran funeral procession, Khameneiโs body will be transferred to Qom. Similar ceremonies are expected to be held there.
Qom holds major religious importance in Iran. The city is home to leading seminaries and clerical institutions.
After Qom, the body will be taken to Mashhad for final ceremonies. Officials said Khamenei will be laid to rest at the Imam Reza shrine in northeastern Iran.
Mashhad is one of Iranโs most important religious cities. The Imam Reza shrine is visited by millions of people every year.
The funeral plan is expected to bring together government officials, religious figures, supporters and citizens from different parts of the country.
Authorities are likely to release more details about the schedule, venues and public arrangements as preparations move forward.
