Thousands of Australians took to the streets on Saturday in Sydney, protesting the arrival of an Israeli cargo ship at Port Botany. They alleged that the international company transporting goods to Israel included weaponry in its cargo.
Many Australians used small boats to siege the ships loaded with deadly weapons to be supplied to Israel for the bombing of the Gaza Strip. In this video, we can hear slogans of Australians against the Gaza bombing and killings of civilians, including children and women.
The demonstrators asserted that their protest had successfully prompted the Israeli vessel, Contship Dax, owned by ZIM, to reschedule its docking, with protesters waving Palestinian flags and chanting from the port while others voiced their dissent from jet skis on the water.
Organized by the Palestine Justice Movement for Sydney and Trade Unionists for Palestine, the protest was hailed as the inaugural step in a campaign aimed at the Israeli shipping line ZIM.
Addressing the crowd, Paddy Gibson of Trade Unionists for Palestine vowed to inflict financial damage on Israel, stating, “They’re in every port of the world, which means we can fight them in every port of the world and bring them to their knees,” emphasizing the need to hit them economically.
The demonstration followed clashes the previous night in Melbourne, Victoria’s coastal capital, where a pro-Palestinian burger shop was targeted in a suspected arson attack, sparking confrontations between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli groups.
The altercation near the burger store led to police intervention, deploying pepper spray to disperse the crowds, as reported by SBS television.
Amidst the chaos, one person sustained minor injuries from a thrown rock, while another was pepper-sprayed and escorted away from the scene, according to the broadcaster.
Hash Tayeh, the burger chain’s founder, labeled the fire as a hate crime after participating in a pro-Palestinian rally.
