Turkey reports: PKK member responsible for leading terror attacks in Iran has been killed

On Saturday, Turkey’s official X account confirmed the death of Saliha Akbiyik, the leader of the Iranian faction of the PKK.

This development was strategically planned and executed, according to a statement released by Turkish authorities.

Akbiyik, who had been on Turkey’s wanted list for her involvement in terrorist activities, was killed in a carefully orchestrated operation conducted at a strategically advantageous time.

Saliha Akbiyik, also known by her codename “Nozhiyan Amad,” joined the PKK in 1993. Turkish sources indicate that she was involved in leading terror operations on Iranian soil and managed militant activities in the Iran-Iraq border region.

Her involvement with the PKK began with her participation in the group’s rural unit in Mersin, Turkey, followed by training at the PKK’s camp in Greece.

Akbiyik was actively engaged in various political, military, and social activities related to the PKK.

Throughout her tenure with the PKK, Akbiyik reportedly took part in armed terror operations in several regions, including Qandil, Zab, Metina, and Makhmur, primarily in Iraq. The PKK, a group recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, Iran, the United States, and the European Union, is notorious for its involvement in numerous bombings, assassinations, and violent acts, which have led to thousands of deaths in the region.

The PKK’s activities are largely driven by separatist aims, and it is believed to have connections with various regional actors, including the Israeli regime.
