Turkey has strongly condemned a terrorist attack in Pakistan’s Balochistan province that resulted in the deaths of at least 18 paramilitary soldiers.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the people of Pakistan and pray for the martyrs,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated on Saturday. The statement also reaffirmed Turkey’s support for Pakistan’s ongoing fight against terrorism.
According to the Pakistani military, at least 18 soldiers lost their lives in clashes in the southwestern region of the country. Meanwhile, security forces launched operations in Balochistan, eliminating 24 militants since Friday.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the Developing-8 (D-8) summit in Cairo, reiterated Turkey’s solidarity with Pakistan against terrorism, emphasizing the shared commitment to peace and security.
The Pakistani military reported that militants attempted to set up roadblocks overnight in Balochistan, leading to intense confrontations. The majority of casualties occurred as security forces dismantled these illegal checkpoints.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group known for carrying out attacks in the region, has claimed responsibility for the assault.
Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in militant activity in the early months of 2025. According to recent data, the number of militant attacks has surged by 42 percent compared to previous months.
Balochistan, a mineral-rich province bordering Iran and Afghanistan, has long been plagued by insurgencies led by ethnic Baloch separatists and militant groups operating in the region.
