At a rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday, former President Donald Trump called for a “violent” police crackdown on crime in the U.S., while Vice President Kamala Harris focused on the need for immigration reform at a rally in Nevada.
Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, also held a rally in Wisconsin, where he reiterated his racially charged narrative of America facing an “invasion” by migrants and criminals.
Citing instances of brazen daylight robberies in major cities, he urged for police to be “extraordinarily rough,” claiming that “the liberal left won’t let them” effectively do their jobs. He suggested that criminals “have to be taught” a lesson, proposing that this could be achieved with “one really violent day.”
Meanwhile, Harris addressed border security issues at a rally in Las Vegas, emphasizing the economy and health care alongside immigration reform.
“As president, I will double the resources for the Department of Justice to target transnational cartels,” she stated, criticizing Trump for failing to address immigration issues during his presidency and calling for comprehensive reform without providing specific details.
In Wisconsin, Trump painted a bleak picture of the U.S., alleging that the “massive number of savage criminal aliens that Kamala Harris has allowed to invade” the country were contributing to rising crime. He claimed that “terrorists are pouring into our country” and referenced a prison in Congo as a source of new arrivals.
At the Pennsylvania rally, Trump also criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies and suggested that Harris should be impeached for her actions. “She should resign and go home to California,” he said.
Despite record illegal border crossings earlier in President Biden’s term, stricter enforcement has led to a decline in numbers this year.
Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reports that crime, including murder, is decreasing nationwide.
Trump, known for his controversial nicknames for opponents, again referred to Harris as “mentally impaired,” prompting laughter from the crowd as he stated, “Crooked Joe Biden became mentally impaired. Sad. But lying Kamala Harris, honestly, I believe she was born that way.”
