Pakistan is gearing up to participate in the forthcoming meeting of Special Envoys on Afghanistan, scheduled for February 18 and 19 in Doha, Qatar. In a statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Ambassador Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, will lead the country’s delegation during the crucial discussions.

The meeting, convened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, aims to address various approaches for international engagement with Afghanistan. Pakistan’s involvement in this gathering is framed as part of the nation’s broader efforts to collaborate with the international community, including the United Nations, in endeavors aimed at fostering lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the significance of Pakistan’s participation, emphasizing its commitment to engaging constructively with the global community to contribute to the stabilization and development of Afghanistan. The meeting of Special Envoys provides a platform for diplomatic discussions and strategic considerations regarding the future trajectory of Afghanistan, aligning with the broader goal of regional stability.

Notably, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman visited Afghanistan the previous month, holding a significant meeting with Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, during an interview with Afghanistan’s Mili TV, disclosed that the primary objective of his visit was to address issues through mutual understanding.

He expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended by the Taliban chief, highlighting the importance of dialogue in resolving challenges and fostering regional cooperation.

Pakistan’s active participation in the UN-led discussions further underscores the country’s commitment to diplomatic initiatives and regional collaboration, aiming to play a constructive role in the ongoing efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
