Over 50 Pakistani-origin candidates are set to compete in Canada’s upcoming federal elections on April 28, 2025, underscoring the growing political engagement of the Pakistani diaspora. The Liberal Party of Canada is fielding more than 15 candidates of Pakistani descent, while the New Democratic Party (NDP) has over 10 such nominees. Additionally, the Centrist Party, led by a Pakistani-origin leader, includes several candidates from the same background.
Notably, the leader’s daughter, Zainab Rana, a Grade 12 student, is running in the elections and is recognized as the youngest candidate in the contest.
Sikh leader Jagmeet Singh, who is actively campaigning, further highlights the diverse representation in this election. Singh’s participation emphasizes the inclusive nature of Canada’s political landscape.
The election is set to determine the composition of Canada’s 343-seat House of Commons, with the party securing a majority forming the next government. Key issues such as economic policies, healthcare, and international relations are central to the ongoing campaigns.
As the election approaches, the involvement of Pakistani-origin candidates reflects the dynamic and diverse political environment in Canada.
