The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will convene an extraordinary, open-ended meeting of its executive committee, composed of foreign ministers, on Wednesday. This meeting will take place at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah and will focus on addressing the severe abuses by Israeli forces against the Palestinian population, including the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and violations of Iran’s sovereignty.
According to a statement from the secretariat, the meeting is a direct response to the extensive violence inflicted upon Palestinians, especially in the Gaza Strip. The ongoing Israeli actions have led to the deaths of 40,000 individuals, predominantly women and children, with over 91,000 others injured. Additionally, these actions have caused the destruction of 430,000 homes and extensive damage to infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, mosques, and historical sites. As a result, two million Palestinians have been displaced.
In parallel developments, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced in Cairo that Turkey will officially submit its intervention declaration regarding the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Wednesday. This move aligns with the broader international efforts to address the crisis in Gaza and hold Israel accountable for its actions.
