Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes in Nuseirat, which resulted in the deaths of six United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) workers.
In a post on her X account (formerly known as Twitter), Malala expressed her shock and dismay at the ongoing targeting of schools in Gaza by Israeli forces.
She wrote, “I am appalled that Israel keeps targeting schools in Gaza—where thousands of displaced people are sheltering—with indiscriminate strikes.”
Malala extended her condolences to the families of the UN aid workers who were killed, saying, “My heart goes out to the loved ones of all victims, including the UN aid workers who were tragically killed.”
According to The Guardian, the attack on the school in Nuseirat, which was serving as a refuge for displaced individuals, marked the deadliest incident for UNRWA staff in a single attack by Israeli forces.
Emphasizing the importance of protecting humanitarian efforts, Malala asserted that “schools and humanitarian workers must never be targets” and called for “accountability for violations of international law.”
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s offensive in Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 41,000 Palestinians, including women, children, and the elderly. The ongoing violence has severely damaged the region’s infrastructure. In light of these devastating events, Malala has urged for an immediate ceasefire in the afflicted territory.
