KARACHI: Russia’s Consul General in Karachi, Andrey V. Fedorov, expressed his satisfaction with the rapid development of bilateral cooperation between Islamabad and Moscow. He noted that high-level contacts between the leadership of both countries have significantly strengthened these ties.
Speaking at the “People’s Unity Day” ceremony held at the Russian Consulate on Friday night, Fedorov explained that this day, celebrated annually on November 4, commemorates the resilience of the Russian people in overcoming historical challenges.
He highlighted that trade between Russia and Pakistan has grown to over $2 billion, emphasizing the evolving nature of their relations. Fedorov remarked on the equality among members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, stressing their collective commitment to securing a better future for their children.
During the event, he shared the historical significance of “People’s Unity Day,” recalling how, in 1612, a shopkeeper named Kuzma Minin and Duke Dmitry Pozharsky led a militia that liberated Russia from Polish occupation during a tumultuous period. This pivotal moment taught the nation enduring lessons that have been passed down through generations.
Fedorov noted that since last year, which marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Pakistan, the frequency and level of high-level contacts have dramatically increased. This was notably evident during the SCO Heads of State meeting in Astana on July 3, where Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other officials, diplomats, and members of the business community. The evening featured a cake-cutting ceremony, traditional Russian dance performances, and a delightful dinner.
