Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi Arrives in Islamabad for Official Visit
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a two-day official visit aimed at discussing bilateral relations and the evolving situation in the Middle East.
During his visit, Araghchi is scheduled to meet separately with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, as stated by the Foreign Office (FO).
“This visit offers a significant opportunity to enhance cooperation and dialogue between Pakistan and Iran across various areas, including trade, energy, and security,” the FO noted.
In addition to bilateral discussions, it is anticipated that the upcoming Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia will be addressed during Araghchi’s meeting with Dar. The situation along the Pakistan-Iran border will also be a key topic on the agenda.
Relations between the two countries experienced tensions earlier this year following cross-border strikes by Tehran, which prompted Islamabad to conduct precision strikes targeting terrorists within Iranian territory. This resulted in Pakistan withdrawing its ambassador from Iran and expressing protests over perceived breaches of sovereignty.
Despite these challenges, diplomatic ties were soon restored, and in April, former Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi visited Pakistan to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Tragically, Raisi and several others, including his foreign minister, lost their lives in a helicopter crash while returning from an inauguration event near the Azerbaijan border.
