Iran once again expresses its backing for Hamas during Haniyeh’s trip to Tehran

During a prominent visit to Tehran, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh met with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, to strengthen the connection between the Palestinian militant group and the Islamic Republic.

In a recent gathering, Leader Khamenei emphasized Iran’s steadfast dedication to the Palestinian issue, promising continuous assistance to the residents of Gaza and Palestine.

Khamenei stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran firmly stands behind the Palestinian cause and the steadfast, suffering people of Gaza, without any hesitation.”

This commitment emerges against the background of increased tension, prompted by a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt to hostilities between Hamas and Israel.

Haniyeh’s visit signifies his second trip to Iran following the conflict with Israel, emphasizing the strong strategic alliance between the two nations. The timing of his visit, along with Iran’s open support for Hamas, demonstrates Tehran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation.

During a shared news conference with Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Haniyeh highlighted Hamas’s progression into a fresh stage of conflict with Israel, referring to their assaults as the “Al-Aqsa Storm.” This language showcases Hamas’s commitment to persistently challenge Israeli hostility.

Recognizing Iran’s crucial part in aiding Hamas, Haniyeh expressed his appreciation towards Iran’s leadership and its citizens for their unwavering support. He also hinted at past financial aid given by Iran, showcasing Tehran’s substantial impact on Hamas’s military capacities.

Although Hamas declined a recent US-mediated agreement for a hostage release and ceasefire, Israel views Hamas’s refusal as a demonstration of their unwillingness to participate in peace discussions. In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has ordered the withdrawal of Israel’s negotiation team from Qatar, which indicates a collapse in negotiations and a worsening of the ongoing conflict.
