Israeli intelligence indicates that Iran may be preparing to launch the third attack on Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days, potentially ahead of the U.S. presidential election on November 5, Axios reported on Thursday.
According to the report, the attack would likely involve drones and ballistic missiles launched from Iraq, with Iran possibly using allied militias in the region to avoid direct retaliation on Iranian soil.
The report follows recent exchanges between Israel and Iran amid ongoing Middle East conflicts, including Israeli airstrikes on missile factories and other sites near Tehran and in western Iran. These strikes were in response to an October 1 barrage of over 200 missiles from Iran targeting Israel.
In response, senior Iranian cleric Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, a close advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned of a “harsh and regretful” retaliation. Speaking to local media, he described Israel’s recent actions as desperate, while praising Iran’s air defenses for minimizing the impact of the strikes.
Additionally, General Hossein Salami, head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, warned that Iran’s response could be “unimaginable,” stating that “Israel has reached the stage of collapse” and accusing it of acting recklessly and without regard for international norms.
