A devastating fire broke out at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 29 lives on Tuesday.
A fire broke out during the daytime as workers were fixing the area, causing ripples throughout the lively urban landscape.
As per state media reports, a fire occurred in the Besiktas area, which is located on the European side of Istanbul. Tragically, all the affected individuals, who were construction workers, were trapped in the fire while working on renovations within the underground site.
The incident took place around 1 p.m. locally, unfolding on Gundogdu Street in the lively Gayrettepe neighborhood of Istanbul. This busy street, known for its vibrancy, was shrouded in sadness as emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene.
The Anadolu Agency, Turkey’s state news organization, disclosed that the fire started during renovation work within a 16-story building. As the fire rapidly grew, it became evident that the situation was severe. Eight people were injured, with seven of them in critical condition.
Following the disaster, Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc revealed that five people, including those in charge of the nightclub and the renovation project, have been subject to arrest warrants.
Tunc placed emphasis on the continuous work being done to determine the reason behind the fire incident. He specifically pointed out the involvement of a dedicated group of professionals, who are skilled in assessing workplace safety and potential fire risks.
