Erdogan Condemns Israel for Killing Turkish-American Activist

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a strong condemnation of Israel following the killing of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American activist.

Eygi was fatally shot by Israeli forces on Friday while participating in a protest against settlement expansion in Beita, a town near Nablus in the northern West Bank.

During an event in Istanbul on Saturday, Erdogan described the killing as a “heinous” act and accused Israel of engaging in genocide in both the West Bank and Gaza.

He claimed that Israel’s actions reflect an intent to occupy these areas and engage in widespread violence. Erdogan asserted that over 40,000 innocent civilians, including 17,000 children, have been killed by Israeli forces.

He criticized Israel for its “barbaric” attacks, which, according to him, indiscriminately target children, women, youth, and the elderly.

The autopsy report confirmed that Eygi was killed by a bullet to the head fired by an Israeli sniper, according to Nablus governor Ghassan Daghlas.

Erdogan framed the situation as part of a broader struggle between expansionist Zionism and Muslims defending their homeland.

He warned that if Israel’s actions are not curtailed, it may advance its aggression beyond Gaza, potentially moving towards occupying Ramallah and other regions, including Lebanon and Syria.

Erdogan characterized Israel’s ambitions as a threat to all Islamic territories, including Türkiye.

He urged Islamic countries to adopt a unified stance against what he described as the uncertain extent of Israeli occupation.

In response to the crisis, Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s new diplomatic initiatives with Egypt, which aim to benefit Gaza and Palestine.

Erdogan’s remarks underscore a growing concern about the broader implications of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the potential regional fallout from continued violence.
