Chinese Ambassador Peiwu shared his thoughts during an exclusive interview while visiting the newspaper’s offices. Peiwu expressed optimism about the future of Iran-China relations, emphasizing the importance of their historical friendship and long-standing partnership in advancing mutual interests and benefits.
In response to a question about the prospects for Iran-China relations under President Masoud Pezeshkian, Peiwu highlighted the strong foundation of their comprehensive strategic partnership. China has consistently been Iran’s largest trading partner, and recent developments reflect a positive trend in their cooperation.
Notably, the new Qom-Yiwu all-rail freight service, which began in July, is expected to bolster cargo transport between the two nations. Furthermore, China has established a “green channel” for Iranian agricultural products, including tangerines, apples, honey, white shrimp, and ribbonfish, which are gaining popularity among Chinese consumers.
Peiwu also noted the robust cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries. The embassy has streamlined the visa application process, allowing Iranians to apply without appointments and achieving a high approval rate of 97.6%. These measures underscore the deepening people-to-people connections and mutual understanding.
Looking ahead, Peiwu pointed to the recent Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which reaffirmed China’s commitment to reform and global engagement. China aims to enhance cooperation with countries worldwide, including Iran, by advancing trade, investment, and other fields. The focus will be on supporting each other’s core interests, expanding practical cooperation, and strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Regarding Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Peiwu praised Iran’s active participation and its contribution to the SCO’s vitality. As China assumes the rotating presidency of the SCO for 2024-2025, it is committed to working with Iran and other partners to foster solidarity, build consensus, and advance global initiatives. Peiwu encouraged Iran to engage actively in SCO activities and leverage the platform for mutual benefits.
On the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Peiwu reaffirmed China’s principled stance. He emphasized China’s longstanding support for Palestinian rights and the need for international efforts to de-escalate the situation. The ongoing conflict in Gaza and its regional implications call for a united international response, urging all parties to adhere to Security Council resolutions and work towards a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire.
Peiwu stressed the importance of Israel responding to international calls for de-escalation, protecting civilians, and preventing further conflict.
