India has scheduled G20 Tourism Group meetings in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, on May 22 to 24.

China and Pakistan have vehemently opposed the G20 meetings in the Occupied Kashmir. Both countries have urged the G20 nations to protest against this Indian decision and announce a boycott of the meeting if it is held in the disputed territory.

Pakistan and India have fought three wars since independence in 1947 over the Kashmir dispute.

India holds the chair of G20 for the year 2023. India has organized a series of meetings throughout the country.

“China is firmly opposed to holding any kind of G20 meetings in disputed territory, and will not attend such meetings,” Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin told media on Friday.

Pakistan has frozen its trade and diplomatic ties with India since 2019 when New Delhi altered the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir state status and converted it into a federal territory. India not only defied the United Nations resolution but also annoyed China and Pakistan who have declared it a disputed territory.

India split the state to create the two federal territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh though a major chunk of Ladakh is under Chinese control.

The Indian-occupied Kashmir has been roiled for decades as Kashmiris demand independence or a merger with Pakistan.

Indian security forces have killed tens of thousands of civilian Kashmiris in this disputed territory to uphold control there.

Notably, New Delhi and Beijing ties strained after a military clash in Ladakh in 2020. About 24 Indian soldiers were killed in the fight.
