Hundreds of thousands of anti-racist and anti-fascist protesters have outnumbered far-right antagonists on the streets of Britain, choosing “love over hate” against the baseless targeting of immigrants for allegedly stealing jobs.
Around 100 hate-fueled protests were announced across the U.K. last night, prompting a massive police mobilization—the largest since the 2011 riots.
UK PM Labels Rioters as Thugs
In a statement from 10 Downing Street on Sunday afternoon, the Prime Minister vowed that authorities would “do whatever it takes to bring these thugs to justice” and promised that justice would be swift.
These individuals had been using now-banned channels on social media to share tips on how to “hood up.”
A gathering of 25,000 anti-racist activists turned out across the UK, braving drizzly weather in southern England. Counter-protesters flooded the streets in several cities, significantly outnumbering the anti-immigration protesters.
These demonstrations followed a week of unrest and numerous arrests after three young girls were tragically killed at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on July 29.
