Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Khalil al-Hayya, the newly elected head of Hamas’ Political Bureau, in Ankara. The meeting also included a Hamas delegation. During the talks, Fidan congratulated al-Hayya on his new appointment.
The meeting focused on the situation in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and ongoing efforts to advance peace negotiations. It also covered humanitarian assistance and Palestinian reconciliation.
Al-Hayya Briefs Türkiye on Gaza and West Bank
During the meeting, Khalil al-Hayya briefed the Turkish foreign minister on recent developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
He said the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had intensified what he described as illegal settlement activities. He also claimed attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem had increased.
In addition, al-Hayya said Hamas continued to adopt a constructive approach to peace negotiations. He also shared updates on efforts aimed at achieving Palestinian reconciliation.
Türkiye Reaffirms Support for Palestinians
Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s continued support for what he described as the “just cause” of the Palestinian people.
He said Türkiye would continue supporting Palestinians across different sectors and on international platforms. Moreover, he stressed that Ankara remained committed to keeping developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank on the global agenda.
Fidan also said Türkiye had consistently highlighted what he described as the Netanyahu government’s crimes in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, as well as attacks on holy sites, before the international community.
Humanitarian Aid and Peace Efforts Remain a Priority
The Turkish foreign minister also discussed humanitarian assistance during the meeting.
He said Türkiye would continue making every effort to increase the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Furthermore, he reaffirmed Ankara’s support for initiatives aimed at advancing the Gaza peace process.
Fidan also expressed appreciation for the role Hamas has played in those peace efforts, according to the details shared after the meeting.
Focus Remains on Dialogue
The meeting reflected Türkiye’s continued diplomatic engagement on developments involving Gaza and the wider Palestinian issue.
