Indian singer and YouTuber Ankiit Baliyan was shot dead outside a gym in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place on Wednesday evening in the city’s Kotwali area, according to police.
Baliyan reportedly came under attack as he was leaving a gym. Police said three to four unidentified attackers arrived on two motorcycles before opening fire.
The attackers fled the scene after shooting the singer. Baliyan suffered multiple gunshot wounds during the attack.
He was taken to a nearby community health centre for emergency treatment. However, doctors could not save him, and he was pronounced dead.
Police Launch Probe Into Ankiit Baliyan Killing
Shamli Superintendent of Police NP Singh said police teams were formed following the shooting. The teams are working to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
Police are also investigating the possible motive behind the killing. Meanwhile, investigators are examining CCTV footage from the gym and nearby areas.
The footage could help investigators trace the attackers and reconstruct the events surrounding the shooting. Police teams have also been sent to Haryana, where Baliyan had been working.
As of Thursday morning, authorities had not announced any arrests.
Social Media Post Claims Gang Responsibility
The investigation took another turn after a social media post allegedly claimed responsibility for Baliyan’s killing. An Instagram account belonging to a man identifying himself as Bholu Shahpuria reportedly made the claim.
The man said he belonged to the Gogi gang and claimed the group was responsible for the attack. The post allegedly linked the killing to a song Baliyan had composed about the death of the gang’s leader.
However, police are still investigating the claim and have not established its authenticity or confirmed the gang’s involvement.
Therefore, the alleged social media statement remains part of the investigation rather than a confirmed explanation for the killing.
Who Was the Gogi Gang Leader?
The gang reportedly takes its name from Delhi gangster Jitender Maan, also known as Gogi. Gogi was killed in 2021 during a shooting inside a courtroom in Delhi.
Members of a rival gang reportedly carried out that attack. The latest killing has therefore raised questions about whether an old gang rivalry could be connected to Baliyan’s death.
Nevertheless, investigators are still working to establish the circumstances and motive behind the shooting. For now, police are relying on CCTV footage, field investigations and other evidence to identify those responsible.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue efforts to trace the attackers and determine why Ankiit Baliyan was targeted.
