Indian preacher Sant Rampal has returned to the public spotlight after spending more than 11 years in jail.
His unusual appearance among followers has now attracted widespread attention in India. A video showing his return to public activities has gone viral.
The footage shows Rampal sitting inside a specially built glass-sided hydraulic vehicle. The vehicle has an air-conditioning system and carries a chair for the preacher.
The unusual setup allows Rampal to remain seated above his followers as they approach him. A donation box can also be seen inside the vehicle.
The video emerged months after Rampal walked out of jail following a lengthy legal battle. Since his release, he has resumed public activities and attracted large numbers of followers.
Rampal’s return follows lengthy imprisonment
Rampal was arrested on November 19, 2014, following a major police operation at his Satlok temple in Barwala, Haryana.
The operation came after authorities made several attempts to arrest him. The confrontation eventually turned violent during the standoff at the temple.
Five women and an infant died during the violence surrounding the confrontation.
Rampal subsequently spent more than 11 years in jail. His lengthy imprisonment became a major part of the legal proceedings surrounding the events at his temple.
High Court grants bail in sedition case
In April 2026, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted Rampal bail in a sedition case.
He was subsequently released from Hisar Central Jail on April 10. His release marked the beginning of his return to public activities.
However, Rampal’s legal troubles did not end with his release. He was later convicted in two murder cases linked to the violence in 2014.
At the same time, he was acquitted in some other cases connected with the broader legal proceedings.
Viral video draws attention
Following his release, Rampal has returned to activities involving his followers.
Large numbers of devotees have reportedly visited him at his temple. His latest public appearance has added another unusual chapter to his return.
The viral video has particularly drawn attention because of the vehicle used during his interaction with followers.
The glass-sided hydraulic vehicle places Rampal on an elevated platform while allowing devotees to approach him. Meanwhile, the air-conditioning system provides a controlled environment inside the vehicle.
