Noreen Niazi, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, is in stable condition after being shifted to a hospital from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Doctors examined Niazi at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) after she reportedly experienced heart-related discomfort and high blood pressure during detention.
Medical Tests Show Normal Results
Hospital sources reported that Niazi’s medical tests returned normal results. Her electrocardiogram (ECG) and troponin tests also showed no signs of heart muscle damage.
Doctors prescribed medication to control her blood pressure. Reports indicated that she could leave the hospital within six hours, depending on her condition and medical assessment.
The findings brought some relief after concerns emerged over her health in jail.
Transfer Followed Health Concerns
Niazi was transferred to PIC on Wednesday evening following a recommendation from jail doctors. Her lawyer, Rana Mudassar Umar, said she had developed health problems while in custody.
Umar also claimed that authorities had not informed her family about the hospital transfer. He raised concerns about access to medical care and visits from relatives and legal counsel.
However, a senior jail official rejected allegations that authorities had withheld medicines and daily-use items. The official said inmates could receive these items under the applicable arrangements.
Imran Khan’s Sisters Remain Detained
Noreen, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan remain in detention under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960. Authorities initially detained the three sisters in September and later extended their detention.
Their custody has drawn attention amid ongoing legal proceedings and calls for access to family members and lawyers.
Noreen’s stable condition and normal test results provide reassurance about her immediate health. However, questions surrounding medical access and detention conditions remain part of the wider dispute.
