A fresh contempt of court petition has been filed in the Supreme Court over alleged restrictions on family meetings and telephone calls involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
According to a media report, Imran Khan’s sister Dr Uzma Khan filed the petition after family members were reportedly prevented from meeting the former prime minister. She also submitted additional documents in support of her case.
Petition Challenges August 18 Order
The petition claims authorities failed to implement an August 18 court order concerning Imran Khan’s access to family members and telephone calls. It alleges that he was not provided an opportunity to speak with his sons and that relatives were stopped from meeting him.
Dr Uzma Khan, Aleema Khan and Qasim Zaman are among those reportedly prevented from meeting the PTI founder. The petition asks the Supreme Court to take notice of the alleged non-compliance with its earlier directions.
The development follows reports that family members and lawyers were unable to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, which was scheduled as a meeting day.
Family And Lawyers Reportedly Stopped
Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, reportedly travelled to Adiala Jail but were not allowed to enter. PTI spokesperson Niazullah Niazi also reached the area but was stopped by police at the Dahgal checkpoint.
Several lawyers, including Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, Ali Zaman and Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, were likewise reportedly stopped at the Factory checkpoint while attempting to reach the prison.
Members of Bushra Bibi’s family were also reportedly denied access to her at Adiala Jail.
The latest petition seeks judicial intervention over the alleged restrictions and calls for enforcement of the Supreme Court’s previous order regarding meetings and telephone access.
