Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has reportedly conveyed instructions concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi through his sister, Noreen Niazi.
According to reports citing unnamed sources, Khan expressed dissatisfaction with Afridi’s performance and said he had failed to meet the party’s expectations.
The reports claim Khan instructed that a no-confidence motion should be moved against Afridi if he failed to lead the planned Islamabad march on September 27.
Imran Khan Reportedly Sends Message Through Noreen
Sources claimed Noreen Niazi briefed Khan about the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during a meeting at Adiala Jail.
According to the reports, she also informed him that around 35 MPAs associated with former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur opposed Afridi.
The sources further claimed that Khan directed Gandapur to move a no-confidence motion if Afridi did not lead the September 27 march.
The reports also alleged that Khan had previously sent a message through a lawyer asking Afridi to step down as chief minister.
Reports Link March Plans to KP Political Tensions
The claims emerged as PTI prepared for its September 27 march towards Islamabad.
Afridi had previously publicly committed to leading the march. In August, he described September 27 as a firm date and urged party workers to prepare for the event.
However, reports later emerged about changes to the protest programme following internal discussions within the party.
Separately, Afridi and Gandapur reportedly held discussions about the political situation in the province. Sources said they also discussed the possibility of dissolving the KP Assembly if the political deadlock continued.
Afridi Says Only Imran Can Remove Him
Amid the reports, Afridi has rejected speculation about his possible removal.
The KP chief minister previously said that Imran Khan had appointed him and remained the only person who could decide his political future.
“Imran Khan brought me here and only Imran Khan can remove me,” Afridi said, according to The News.
He also said the party leadership could not ignore a protest call issued by Khan.
Imran Khan’s Family Rejects Report
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s family has strongly rejected reports about the alleged meeting and instructions.
In a statement reported on Sunday, the family described the reports as fabricated and baseless. It said Noreen Niazi’s last meeting with Khan took place on August 25 and that she had not shared details of that meeting afterwards.
The family also raised concerns that Noreen was in custody and therefore unable to respond directly to the reports.
As a result, the claims about Khan’s alleged instructions remain disputed.
Political Situation Remains Uncertain
The reports come amid heightened tensions surrounding PTI’s planned September 27 protest.
Authorities have introduced extensive security measures around Islamabad and routes connecting the capital with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, PTI has continued to demand Khan’s release and maintain its plans for political mobilisation.
For now, the reported disagreement over Afridi’s position remains unconfirmed. While several media reports have cited sources claiming Khan sought a possible no-confidence motion, his family has publicly denied the account.
