A medical report concerning PTI founder Imran Khan has surfaced, highlighting concerns about his blood pressure and anxiety while he remains in Adiala Jail. A four-member medical board examined Khan on August 10 and recommended several measures to support his physical and mental well-being.
According to the report, the board assessed Khan’s anxiety level at “three-plus” and advised him to walk for one hour daily. The recommendation aims to control his blood pressure and anxiety during detention.
Medical Board Recommends Greater Family Contact
The medical board also recommended that Khan receive regular access to his family, newspapers, television and books. Doctors also suggested increasing meetings with his wife to help reduce anxiety and control blood pressure.
The report followed concerns about fluctuating blood pressure, palpitations, headaches and restlessness. Doctors said these measures could support wellbeing. Earlier, a consultant cardiologist recommended more frequent meetings with his wife and greater access to reading material.
Doctors Assess Khan’s Condition
The four-member board included Dr Farqad Alamgir, Dr Arif Khan, Dr Akhtar Ali Bandesha and Dr Ali Arif. Dr Alamgir was reportedly called from London to Adiala Jail to participate in Khan’s medical care.
The report recorded Khan’s blood pressure at 140/80mmHg and pulse at 54 beats per minute. His ECG was reported as normal, while doctors found no chest pain or shortness of breath.
Sources said Dr Alamgir also changed Khan’s blood pressure medication. Meanwhile, the recommendations have renewed attention on Khan’s health in prison.
The medical findings come as PTI supporters continue their long march toward Islamabad, demanding Khan’s release. Therefore, the recommendations could add to debate over his treatment in custody.
