Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has clarified details surrounding Imran Khanโs overnight medical examination. He confirmed authorities took the incarcerated PTI founder to PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital.
The Supreme Court had specifically directed Khanโs transfer to Shifa International Hospital. The diversion has therefore raised questions about compliance with the courtโs explicit instructions.
Govt Cites Security Concerns Behind PIMS Transfer
Tarar said Shifa International doctors joined state doctors at PIMS for Khanโs examination. He claimed doctors thoroughly evaluated the 73-year-old former prime minister during the overnight process.
According to Tarar, PTI workers created a potential security situation around the planned hospital transfer. He said those concerns made Khanโs admission to a private hospital impractical.
The minister maintained that authorities followed the spirit of the Supreme Courtโs instructions. However, the decision to use PIMS instead of Shifa could invite further legal scrutiny.
Khan Returned To Adiala Jail After Examination
Tarar said a medical board at PIMS examined Khan alongside Shifa doctors. He added that doctors declared the former prime minister medically fit after completing the evaluation.
Authorities subsequently returned Khan to Rawalpindiโs Adiala Jail at approximately 5am Friday. The government said the transfer followed the completion of his medical assessment.
The clarification comes amid questions about the implementation of the Supreme Courtโs order. The court had specifically named Shifa International Hospital as the destination.
The government now faces scrutiny over whether security concerns justified changing the court-directed transfer. Meanwhile, Khan remains at Adiala Jail following the overnight medical examination.
