Huawei has revealed the design of its upcoming Mate XT 2 tri-fold smartphone, showing several major changes compared with the original model.
The biggest update involves the folding mechanism. Huawei has replaced the original Mate XTโs Z-shaped folding system with a U-shaped design that resembles Samsungโs approach to tri-fold smartphones.
New Folding System Protects Flexible Display
Official images show the Mate XT 2 folding in a different direction from Samsungโs Galaxy Z Tri-Fold. While Samsungโs device reportedly opens from the left panel, Huaweiโs upcoming phone opens toward the right.
The U-shaped mechanism could offer an important durability advantage. When users completely fold the smartphone, the flexible inner display remains protected inside the device instead of staying exposed.
That change could reduce the risk of display damage, particularly because replacing the original Mate XTโs foldable screen costs around $743.
Meanwhile, Huawei has added a pill-shaped camera cutout to the outer display. The design could support 3D facial recognition, although Huawei has not confirmed the feature.
The company has also retained an octagonal rear camera module similar to the previous model.
Kirin 9030S And HarmonyOS 7 Expected
Huawei reportedly plans to equip the Mate XT 2 with the Kirin 9030S chipset. The processor features one 2.69GHz super core, three 2.15GHz large cores and four 1.62GHz medium cores.
The chipset also includes a Maleoon 935F GPU clocked at 933MHz with three compute units.
Furthermore, the Mate XT 2 could become the first smartphone to launch with HarmonyOS 7. Huaweiโs updated Ark Engine reportedly integrates a large model into the operating system and uses more than two billion scene-learning data points.
Huawei claims the technology can deliver a further 15% performance improvement while keeping annual load growth below 10%. The company has not confirmed a launch date, but the public design reveal suggests an announcement could arrive soon.
