Pakistan has introduced a new digital system designed to make pension verification faster and more convenient for pensioners across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the digital “Proof of Life” system in Islamabad on Thursday. The initiative uses modern biometric technology to simplify the verification process.
Digital Proof of Life Uses Biometric Verification
The new Proof of Life application uses biometric and facial recognition technology through a mobile application.
The system will allow pensioners to verify their identity digitally before receiving their pension payments. This approach aims to reduce the difficulties associated with traditional verification procedures.
The digital process could also make pension services more accessible for elderly citizens. It may reduce the need for pensioners to repeatedly visit offices for verification.
PM Shehbaz Highlights Benefits for Pensioners
Addressing a gathering in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of the new initiative.
According to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the prime minister said the government was working continuously for Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
“The new biometric and facial verification system is a service to humanity,” the prime minister said.
He also congratulated Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, NADRA Chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar and Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal.
The officials played a role in developing and introducing the new digital pension verification system.
Millions of Pensioners Expected to Benefit
The government expects the new system to benefit millions of pensioners across Pakistan.
“Millions of pensioners will benefit from this modern digital system and application,” he added.
The introduction of facial and biometric verification marks another step toward digitising public services. It could also make pension payments more secure by strengthening identity verification.
For pensioners, the system is expected to offer a simpler way to complete mandatory verification. At the same time, digital verification could help government institutions improve the efficiency of pension-related services.
The initiative reflects Pakistan’s broader shift toward digital public services. By using biometric and facial recognition technology, the government aims to make pension verification more convenient while improving the overall payment process.
