The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a human trafficking suspect who remained wanted for 16 years. Noor Ahmed was apprehended during an operation in Mandi Bahauddin on Sunday.
FIA officials said the suspect was wanted in connection with a case involving the illegal migration of Pakistani citizens to Greece. Investigators allege that he helped people travel through Iran and Turkey using dangerous illegal migration routes.
The arrest followed a targeted operation by the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Rawalpindi.
FIA Arrests Noor Ahmed in Mandi Bahauddin
According to FIA officials, Noor Ahmed was arrested in connection with FIR No. 243/10. The agency had listed him as a proclaimed offender in the human trafficking case.
The suspect allegedly facilitated the illegal transportation of Pakistani citizens to Greece through routes passing through Iran and Turkey. These journeys are commonly associated with the ‘Dunki’ route used for irregular migration.
The FIA carried out the operation under the directions of Islamabad Zone Director Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari. He instructed Deputy Director Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Nadeem Zafar to establish a special team.
The team was tasked with tracking down proclaimed offenders wanted in human trafficking cases.
Special FIA Team Carried Out the Operation
Inspector Zahid Bhatti led the team responsible for locating and arresting the suspect. Assistant Sub-Inspector Rafiq and Head Constable Waqas Gujjar also participated in the operation.
Their efforts resulted in Ahmed’s arrest after he had remained wanted for 16 years.
Meanwhile, FIA officials said investigators would examine the roles of other suspects allegedly connected to the case. Their involvement will be determined as the investigation progresses.
FIA Reaffirms Action Against Human Trafficking
Following the arrest, the FIA reiterated its commitment to taking legal action against human trafficking and illegal immigration networks.
The agency said it would continue pursuing individuals accused of facilitating unlawful migration. Moreover, the arrest forms part of wider efforts by Pakistani authorities to address illegal migration networks.
Authorities are seeking to bring suspects accused of arranging dangerous overseas journeys before the law. However, investigators will determine the involvement of other individuals during the ongoing inquiry.
The arrest in Mandi Bahauddin brings a 16-year search for the wanted suspect to an end. It also marks another action by the FIA against alleged facilitators of illegal migration to Europe.
