LAHORE: Two women arrested on theft and fraud allegations died while being transported to hospital during a police transfer in Lahore’s Township area, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Anmol and Amina. According to police, citizens detained both women after accusing them of theft and fraud before handing them over to the authorities.
Police registered a formal case and transferred the suspects to the Investigation Wing for questioning. Subsequently, officials began moving them to Liton Road police station as part of the legal process.
However, police said both women suddenly developed health complications during the transfer. Officers immediately arranged emergency medical assistance and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
Despite the emergency response, both women died before reaching the medical facility, according to the police.
Authorities have not disclosed the exact cause of death. However, officials said further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, police are expected to examine all relevant evidence, including the events leading to the women’s medical emergency during the transfer.
The incident has raised questions about the circumstances of the detainees’ condition before and during their transportation. However, authorities have not released additional details about the investigation or whether post-mortem examinations have been completed.
Police said they will provide further information after the inquiry establishes the facts surrounding the deaths.
