LAHORE: At least 10 people, including eight members of one family, died after the roofs of two houses collapsed in Lahore and Faisalabad amid heavy monsoon rains. Rescue teams continued operations as several people remained trapped under the debris.
The incidents occurred as continuous rainfall weakened residential structures in different areas. Authorities launched rescue efforts to recover survivors and shift injured victims to hospitals.
Lahore house collapse kills seven family members
The deadliest incident occurred in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area, where a three-storey house collapsed in Kotli Pir Abdul Rehman at around 10:15pm on Wednesday.
According to police, more than 18 members of the same family from three households were inside the building when the roof collapsed. Rescue teams, with help from local residents, recovered 13 people from the rubble.
Seven people died, while six others suffered injuries in the incident. Rescue officials continued searching for five missing family members trapped beneath the debris.
Police said the victims included elderly people, women, men and children. Two women died after rescuers shifted them to hospital. Officials confirmed that the deceased included three women, two children and two young adults.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner visited the site and reviewed the rescue operation. He said three injured victims were receiving treatment at Services Hospital. The commissioner also met survivors and affected families.
Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) lawmaker Malik Waheed visited the site and assured relatives of government support.
Faisalabad roof collapse claims two children
In a separate incident in Faisalabad, two children died after the roof of a rain-damaged house collapsed near Chak No 219-RB Talianwala on Jhang Road.
Rescue officials said five family members were trapped under the debris after the weakened structure fell. Six-month-old Muhammad Rizwan and five-year-old Subhan died in the collapse.
Rescue workers recovered a six-year-old boy, Muhammad Ahmed, from the rubble. Another child, Ahmed, and a woman named Rizwana suffered serious injuries and received medical treatment.
The incidents highlight the risks posed by damaged buildings during the monsoon season. Authorities have urged residents to avoid staying in unsafe structures during heavy rainfall. Rescue teams continued efforts to complete operations and locate any remaining victims.
