A mobile phone shop in Karachi’s Saddar market lost goods worth Rs. 2.8 million after an unusual theft involving altered locks. The suspect allegedly changed the shop’s locks shortly before closing, allowing him to return later and steal the merchandise.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of October 17 and has raised concerns among traders in the busy mobile market. Video footage of the incident has also circulated, drawing attention to the unusual method used in the robbery.
How the Suspect Allegedly Changed the Shop Locks
According to the available details, the suspect arrived at the shop and remained there for some time. Shortly before closing, he allegedly replaced the locks without attracting the shopkeeper’s attention.
The shopkeeper later closed the premises using the altered locks and left, apparently unaware of the change. However, the suspect reportedly returned, opened the shop’s shutter and removed mobile phones and other goods.
The theft allegedly took just five minutes, allowing the suspect to escape with merchandise valued at Rs. 2.8 million. The incident has left traders in Saddar discussing how the suspect managed to carry out the operation.
Police Register Case Over Saddar Market Theft
Trade leader Rizwan Irfan said the incident occurred on the night of October 17. He also stated that the suspect completed the theft within approximately five minutes.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Preedy Police Station. Police will investigate the reported theft and work to identify and trace the suspect.
The incident highlights the financial losses that traders can face when criminals exploit opportunities around shop closing times. However, the suspect’s identity and the outcome of the investigation have not been confirmed in the available information.
Separate Online Investment Fraud Case in Islamabad
In a separate case, an Islamabad court sentenced three people, including a foreign national, to seven years in prison each for online investment fraud. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) announced the convictions on Thursday.
The court also imposed a combined fine of Rs. 250,000 on the three convicts. According to the agency, the accused defrauded a citizen of Rs. 19.391 million through a fraudulent investment scheme.
The accused allegedly used a fake application impersonating a foreign private bank to persuade the victim to invest. Consequently, the victim suffered substantial financial losses.
Sub-Inspector Shehroz Riaz conducted the investigation, according to the NCCIA. The agency also reiterated its commitment to pursuing cybercrime cases and protecting citizens from online financial fraud.
The Karachi shop theft and Islamabad investment fraud involve separate incidents. Both cases highlight the financial harm that criminal activity can cause to individuals and businesses.
