A woman has been arrested in Peshawar after allegedly throwing acid at a 26-year-old man and shooting him. The incident reportedly occurred in the Chamkani area after he refused her marriage proposal.
Police identified the suspect as Atiqa. Officers said her name appeared in an FIR registered at Chamkani Police Station. They arrested her on Thursday as the investigation into the incident continued.
Man alleges pressure over marriage and money
According to the FIR, the victim, Sadiqullah, and Atiqa were friends. Sadiqullah told police that Atiqa had allegedly pressured him to marry her.
He further alleged that she demanded Rs2.3 million from him. However, he said he refused both the marriage proposal and her financial demands.
The victim claimed that Atiqa attacked him while he was leaving his house. She allegedly threw acid at him before opening fire.
Police said the woman allegedly targeted Sadiqullah with the intention of killing him. The shooting reportedly injured him on the left side of his chest.
Meanwhile, the acid caused burn injuries to several parts of his body. Rescue workers shifted him to a trauma centre, where he received medical treatment.
Suspect also suffers burn injuries
Police said Atiqa also sustained burn injuries during the incident. Her hands, feet and other parts of her body were reportedly affected.
She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Police said they will seek her physical remand after doctors discharge her.
The case was registered on Wednesday at Chamkani Police Station. Subsequently, investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.
Officials said they are reviewing all aspects of the case. Further legal action will follow according to the findings of the investigation and applicable law.
The incident has raised concerns about the serious consequences that can follow disputes involving marriage and personal relationships. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the exact sequence of events.
